DISCOVERY / PRODUCT DELIVERY
Shaping a clearer path through sudden death investigations
I led discovery, design and delivery of a sudden death investigation solution for a state police service. It is now live and used by police officers, saving time and improving data quality and consistency.

When someone dies from unknown causes, police need to respond and coordinate a series of investigations. The police service wanted to digitise a slow, manual process, supporting work that begins in the field and continues at the station.
I led the work from discovery through to a live solution now used by police officers.
What I owned
- Led design for the discovery engagement.
- Used workshops, user research, prototyping and testing to explore the process.
- Helped define the experience and shape the business case for investment.
- Led the team of designers and engineers that built the solution, with accountability for its successful delivery.
Context
The process involved multiple agencies, with different pain points and roadblocks across the investigation. Understanding those relationships was essential to defining a future workflow that made sense for officers and the organisation. The response also needed to support people through circumstances that are often stressful for the community and police officers alike.
Approach and decisions
We engaged the agencies involved to understand the existing process and where it became difficult. I combined facilitation, research, prototypes and user testing to help shape and explore a future state.
The discovery defined an experience that would support the investigation from the field through to the station, with clearer guidance across the end-to-end process. It also formed the business case for investment in the solution.
Following that successful discovery, I led the team of designers and engineers to build and deliver the product.
Result
The solution is now live, available to police officers and being used in investigations. Feedback has been very positive, with significant time savings and improvements in data quality and consistency.
It supports a clearer, more consistent operational response, helping officers manage a complex investigation while supporting the community through a difficult experience.
