Striking a chord

Sometimes, the right combination of elements help a message cut through the noise and strike a chord in our body and minds.
Striking a chord
A "key" frequency unlocks a door.

This week I met a new mentor, who shared some words of wisdom. I'd heard these ideas before, many times, but for some reason this time it struck a chord. (I'll share the words at the end, in case you are curious, but this post is not about what they said.)

Has this happened to you?

It's definitely not the first time it happens to me. When the right sequence of words, tone, pauses, context, trust, etc, align in such a way that, like a key that opens a lock, a door in your mind is unlocked and a new understanding of things emerges. It's a moment of wonderment. "How did I not think of this before? This is so obvious" says your internal voice.

I'll try to capture a thought about why these moments happen, using music as an example.

Think of your favourite song. I'll give you a second to listen to it in your head, or on the speakers if it's playing. How did that make you feel?

I guess I’ll never know, but this is one of the things I love about music. When it strikes the right chord, it ignites powerful emotions in people. It’s a whole language that's not bound by words, and makes us feel in certain ways.

I like to think that everything is energy. Space, material and ethereal worlds, feelings and even thoughts. Everything = energy. And energy can be transformed but not created or destroyed (or so they say).

Music uses different elements to produce and alter frequencies in our body, mind and soul, and transform the energy in and around us.

Think of a sequence of words, tone, pauses, context, trust, etc, of a message that unlocked a door, as a melody. When this melody played you felt something click. This is because the melody, beyond the words themselves, altered the frequencies in your mind and body, realigning your energy in new ways, unlocking new perspectives of reality.

This transformation was only possible because your frequencies were also vibrating in a way that welcomed that melody. The key and lock came together to complete the transformation.

Humans have many instruments to influence frequencies and effect energy. Our voice can make sounds, intentions can shape a moment, we might use our empathy to hold a pause. By bringing awareness to how we communicate with others and ourselves, and being mindful of every element we use, we can craft a sequence of words, tone, pauses, context, trust, etc, that unlocks a door, and play melodies that transform reality.

PS: In case you are still wondering... here's the words of the melody I heard:

"Magic comes when you stop trying to impersonate others, and become comfortable in having your own style."
